Truss Design Project

Project Overview

This structural engineering project involved designing, analyzing, and fabricating a truss to meet specific load requirements. As CAD Engineer, I produced complete engineering drawings for professional review and led the hands-on manufacturing process, resulting in a truss that sustained 1.5× the required load capacity.

Truss Design

My Role

I produced complete CAD models and engineering drawings for design and fabrication review with a professional engineer, evaluating truss geometry, member sizing, and gusset design. I performed structural analysis in MATLAB/Excel, integrating material test data to drive design decisions, and led hands-on manufacturing and assembly.

Construction Process

Design Process

Analysis

Structural analysis using MATLAB/Excel, integrated material test data to inform design decisions, calculated safety factors and predicted failure modes

Design

Produced complete CAD models and engineering drawings, evaluated truss geometry and member sizing, designed gusset connections for fabrication review

Manufacturing

Led hands-on manufacturing and assembly, prepared technical engineering reports detailing material testing and structural analysis

Final Testing

Outcome

The truss successfully sustained 1.5× the required load capacity before failure, validating the structural analysis and design approach. This project demonstrated how engineering analysis and material testing translate to real-world performance through detailed technical documentation and hands-on fabrication.
